Carpeted in layers of snow, Mangan is one of the major tourist destinations in Sikkim. The charming town will surprise tourists at every step with its breathtaking beauty and solitude. An important center of Buddhism in Sikkim, Mangan is a small hill station located amidst the eastern Himalaya. Nature lovers and voyagers easily get attracted to this city as they can relax in the scenic beauty of Mangan. There are many mountain streams, forest hills and several trails nearby the ridges of Mangan.

The history of Mangan dates back to the 9thcentury, when Guru Rinpoche blessed Mangan with Buddhism. The region of Magan was invaded by the Bhutanese, and it was later invaded by the Qing Dynasty of China. 2/3rdpopulation of Mangan belongs to the Nepalese community, followed by Buddhism and Hinduism.

Labrang monastery is another major tourist attraction of Mangan. The monastery was built to pay homage to Latsun Chembo of Kongpu (Tibet). Latsun Chembo was the one who started and disseminated Nyingmapa School of Tibetan Buddhism.

In the month of December, a three day musical festival is organized by the people of Sikkim. Many musical performances are performed by the famous bands of Sikkim. During the three day musical fest, face mask dance is performed which is dedicated to Kanchenjunga, the prime deity of the destination. Mountains, music and the cold weather create an enthralling event which visitors remember throughout their lives.

How to Reach Mangan:

By Air: Jalpaiguri Railway station is the nearest railway station to Mangan.

By Rail: Mangan does not have its own railway station, with the nearest station being located at Jalpaiguri, at a distance of 112 km from Mangan. The small town is located at an elevation of 3136 ft. above sea level. The rail network is well connected to prominent cities like Trivandrum, Secunderabad, Guwahati, Chennai, and Cochin.

By Road: Magan is a small town and is well connected with the main cities of Sikkim. The list of nearest places to Manganis as follows:
